Depression Counseling

Depression

In today’s society we use the term depression to describe just about every down mood. Unfortunately this has caused the term to become a bit muted. Depression is more than just feeling sad or going through a rough patch. It’s a serious mental health condition that requires understanding and medical care. Left untreated, depression can be devastating for the people who have it and for their families. When detected early and treated many people improve.

An estimated 16 million American adults—almost 7% of the population—had at least one major depressive episode in the past year. People of all ages and all racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds experience depression.

Symptoms check (these can feel different in each person; not an all inclusive list):

Your day-to-day functioning has changed?
Changes in sleep?
Changes in appetite?
Lack of concentration?
Loss of energy?
Lack of interest?
Low self esteem?
Hopelessness? Changes in movement?
Physical aches and pains?

There are many components that can cause depression, it could be a life crisis, physical illness or other risk, trauma, genetics, life circumstances, marital status, financial standing and where a person lives can have an effect on whether a person develops depression as well as more circumstances.

If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or intentions immediate treatment is necessary, call your local crisis line, 911 or visit your nearest emergency room.

Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES)/ AlphaStim for Treatment of Anxiety, Depression and Insomnia

Looking for a drug free treatment to enhance your therapy for anxiety, depression and insomnia? By changing the electrical and chemical activity of certain nerve cells in the brainstem, Alpha-Stim® appears to amplify activity in some neurological systems, and diminish activity in others. This neurological ‘fine tuning’ is called modulation, and occurs either as a result of, or together with the production of a certain type of electrical activity pattern in the brain known as an alpha state which can be measured on brain wave recordings (EEG). Such alpha rhythms are accompanied by feelings of calmness, relaxation and increased mental focus. The neurological mechanisms that are occurring during the alpha state appear to decrease stress-effects, reduce agitation and stabilize mood, and control both sensations and perceptions of particular types of pain.
This is available in session and by prescription. See https://alleviahealth.com for more information.

Other issues are explored and resolved through counseling. Some are best suited for personal development and life strategy coaching. This is determined based on effects it is having on your life and if healing is needed or if life is good and you’re looking at a goal you want to get to. We can discuss this during your consult.
